Council Member Held at 79th Precinct Following Arrest at Bed-Stuy Protest

Brooklyn Council Member Chi Ossé is currently being held at the 79th Precinct in Williamsburg following his arrest earlier today during a protest in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
The arrest took place outside a residence on Jefferson Avenue, where a rally was underway in response to an eviction dispute. According to video circulating online, Ossé was involved in a confrontation with officers before being taken into custody. Bystanders at the scene could be heard reacting as police led him away.
Following the arrest, Ossé’s office confirmed that he is being held at the 79th Precinct and called for public support. A message shared by his team urged residents to come to the precinct and advocate for his release.
City officials have begun responding to the incident. Mayor Zohran Mamdani described the arrest as concerning and said the situation would be reviewed. City Council Speaker Julie Menin also stated she is in contact with Ossé’s office and authorities regarding the matter.
The NYPD has not yet issued an official statement.
