Wallabout And Lynch Street Construction Part Of Citywide Safety Project For Students
By Idy Perl
Williamsburg residents have recently noticed significant construction work on the sidewalks of Wallabout and Lynch Street that has widened the sidewalks.
In an exclusive statement to W365, the DOT confirmed that the construction is part of an ongoing project to increase pedestrian safety in Williamsburg, especially for students and parents going to and from schools.
“NYC DOT is redesigning intersections near schools to help children and their families travel to and from class safely,” the DOT told W365. “The sidewalk expansion at Wallabout and Lynch streets will help reduce crossing times for pedestrians and improve visibility, while also naturally encouraging drivers to travel at safe speeds through the intersection.”
Similar construction will be taking place at several other intersections across Williamsburg, all chosen for their proximity to schools. The intersections that will be undergoing construction include:
- Wallabout St and Lynch St
- Wallabout St and Lee Ave / Lorimer St
- Union Ave and Harrison Ave / Middleton St / Lorimer St
- Williamsburg St E and Division Ave
