Original Report 10:15am:

Williamsburg residents are invited to come out tonight to join the NYPD in celebrating the National Night Out Against Crime.

The 90th Precinct Night Out will be held at the William Sheridan Playground on Wythe Ave (Grand Street & South 1 Street) from 4 to 8 p.m.

The 79th Precinct Night Out will take place at Restoration Plaza 1368 Fulton Street from 12-8pm.

The purpose of the event is to “build ties between neighbors and law enforcement, while bringing back a true sense of community,” the National Night Out (NNO) website explains.

Since 1984, police departments nationwide have been creating camaraderie in neighborhoods and improving relationships between officers and communities, “to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live,” the NNO website says about the annual event.
