Flood Preparedness Town Hall Event To Prepare For Tonight’s Storm
By Idy Perl
Tropical Storm Debby is currently circling Georgia and quite literally cooking up a storm that will be causing heavy rain as far as New York.
Governor Hochul announced that New York is currently taking steps to prepare for thunderstorms that are expected to hit tonight and last until tomorrow morning, and that will possibly cause flash flooding as well.
The Department of Environmental Protection will be holding a Town Hall tonight, August 6th, to give a presentation on flood preparedness and let residents know what the city is doing to protect the neighborhood. Flood preparedness kits will be handed out to all participants, and will include a flood sensor alarm, pumps, and flood barriers. The event will be held at 231 Palmetto St, Bushwick, Brooklyn. Doors will open at 6PM and the event will begin at 6:30PM.
The DOT and Thruway Authority are preparing equipment to ensure the roads stay safe and to be able to assist drivers. Hundreds of dump trucks, loaders, excavators, aerial trucks, and more equipment are on standby in case of an emergency.
“New York is no stranger to extreme weather and the potential danger of flash flooding,” Governor Hochul said. “My administration is monitoring closely and deploying resources to keep New Yorkers safe, and I encourage everyone to remain vigilant and watch the forecast closely over the next several days.”
