Overnight Water Shutdown Scheduled for Parts of Williamsburg This Week
Residents are advised of a planned overnight water shutdown scheduled for this week as crews work on upgrades to the city’s water infrastructure system.
According to a construction advisory issued to the community, the temporary shutdown is planned for Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 12:00 a.m. until 4:00 a.m. The work is part of an ongoing project involving the replacement and testing of new 8-inch and 20-inch water mains.
Construction teams will be opening and closing water valves during the operation to ensure the newly installed systems are functioning properly.
The affected areas are expected to include:
* Harrison Avenue between Walton Street and Middleton Street
* The intersection of Harrison Avenue and Union Avenue
* Lorimer Street between Harrison Avenue and Throop Avenue
Officials said the work will move forward weather and field conditions permitting.
Residents and businesses in the impacted areas are encouraged to prepare in advance for the temporary interruption in water service. Additional notifications are expected to be issued approximately 24 hours before the shutdown begins.
The infrastructure work is part of broader efforts to improve water service reliability and modernize aging utility systems throughout the neighborhood.
