NYC on Weather Alert: Heavy Rain, Powerful Winds & Flooding Expected Thursday

By Williamsburg 365 Staff

New York City Emergency Management has issued a Weather Alert for Thursday, warning residents to prepare for heavy rain, strong winds, and the potential for minor flooding. The storm system is expected to impact the city from Thursday afternoon through approximately 10:00 PM.

Forecasts call for 1–2 inches of rainfall, along with wind gusts that could reach up to 50 mph. Low-lying areas, coastal neighborhoods, and locations near high tide may experience minor flooding.

The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory for Southern Queens, as well as Coastal Flood Statements for Brooklyn, Staten Island, Manhattan, and the Bronx.

Residents are encouraged to take precautionary steps, including clearing leaves from drains and catch basins, securing outdoor items, and checking on neighbors who may need assistance. Clogged catch basins can be reported to 311.

Commuters should anticipate a slower and potentially hazardous travel period and allow extra time for their trips.

NYC Emergency Management is urging New Yorkers to stay informed, have a safety plan in place, and prepare essential supplies. To receive real-time emergency alerts, residents can text NotifyNYC to 692-692.
