NYC DOT to Add Lighting at Busy Dark Intersection
By GY
The NYC Department of Transportation will install new lighting at the intersection of Bedford Avenue and Williamsburg Street West within the next two months, following renewed requests from the United Jewish Organization of Williamsburg (UJO).
The appeal was reiterated after an incident this past motzaei Shabbos, when the Biksad Rav was knocked over at the poorly lit intersection. Advocacy efforts were led by Askan R’ Moshe Weiser.
UJO previously secured approval for improved lighting in 2022, but the work was not completed, likely due to ongoing construction in the area. The upcoming installation aims to significantly improve visibility and enhance safety for both pedestrians and motorists.
Special thanks to NYC DOT Brooklyn Borough Commissioner Keith Bray, and Pinny Ringel for their dedicated assistance in advancing this important safety enhancement
