NYC DOT Plans 500 New Bike Parking Locations Across the City

Yisroel R.

The New York City Department of Transportation announced a new initiative to build 500 secure bike parking locations across the five boroughs as part of an effort to expand cycling infrastructure.

As part of the plan, NYC DOT launched an online feedback portal allowing New Yorkers to suggest where the new bike parking locations should be placed. Officials say the program is aimed at addressing a major issue, as many residents do not have space to store bikes at home, especially larger e-bikes and cargo bikes.

The city says the network will be distributed across all five boroughs and may include features such as charging stations, repair tools, and options for different types of bikes.

In addition, NYC DOT released the 2026 NYC Bike Map, which will be available online and in print, showing bike lanes, shared routes, and other resources to help riders navigate the city.

Officials say the initiative is intended to make cycling more accessible and practical for more New Yorkers.
