Migrants Again Linked to Violence: Shooting Near Shelter Leaves One Dead

By Williamsburg 365 Staff

In a shocking incident last evening, EMS and NYPD responded to a shooting near the Ryerson migrant shelter.

One victim, in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the hospital not long after the shooting, while another victim, in his 50s, is in critical condition.

According to witnesses, two suspects fled the scene following the shooting, with one on a moped crashing into a vehicle a few blocks away at Park Avenue and Taffy Place after a pursuit. NYPD officers quickly apprehended the suspect at the crash site.

This shooting happened just minutes after another shooting incident only two blocks away at a park near Steuben Street and Flushing Avenue, where a male in his 30s was shot and died in the hospital.

These incidents mark another troubling episode in what has become a series of disturbances linked to the migrant shelter, disrupting the relative calm and harmony of the Williamsburg neighborhood.
