Councilman Lincoln Restler Introduces Bill Requiring NYC Landlords to Ensure Tenants Stay Cool
By Idy Perl
A new bill introduced last Thursday would require landlords to provide air conditioning for all their tenants.
More specifically, the bill would also require them to keep the temperature in their units below 78 degrees when it’s above 82 degrees outside.
The bill was introduced by City Councilman Lincoln Restler, who said “Just as the landlord provides heat in the winter, they should be providing cooling in the summer.”
If this bill indeed becomes a law, landlords will have four years to bring their buildings into compliance.
