A man entered a home on Ross Street at approximately 5:00 a.m. this past Shabbos morning, while the entire family was asleep prompting an extensive investigation by Shomrim and NYPD’s 90th precinct into the individual and his past history in the neighborhood.
According to information gathered, the same individual is believed to have entered two homes on Hooper Street approximately one month ago and has stolen more than $10,000 worth of valuable items. Shomrim says the man has a prior history with the organization and has been linked to repeated attempts to gain access to multiple homes in Williamsburg.
According to the investigation by Williamsburg Shomrim, the suspect has gone from house to house checking doors and looking for ways to enter, including through front doors, back doors, windows, and through porches. Following extensive research, Shomrim has obtained a clear photo of the individual and identified areas where he has been seen frequently roaming around.
The suspect has not yet been apprehended, and Shomrim is asking anyone who sees him or has additional information that could help locate him to contact the organization immediately.
In an important message to Williamsburg 365, Yanky Itzkowitz, Coordinator of Williamsburg Shomrim stressed the importance of calling for help right away, particularly on shabbos. “If someone hears or suspects that an intruder is entering their home, they should call Shomrim right away and should not hesitate because of Hilchos Shabbos concerns.” Shomrim says the matter has been verified with Rabbanim and Dayanim as one of pikuach nefesh, since a resident has no way of knowing whether an intruder may be dangerous or armed.
Residents are also being urged to make sure that all entrances to their homes are properly secured, including front doors, back doors, and windows, particularly overnight. Shomrim says perpetrators looking to enter homes will often try multiple access points until they find one that is unlocked or vulnerable.
With the suspect still at large, Shomrim is urging Williamsburg residents to remain alert, carefully secure their homes, and report any suspicious activity or information that could assist in locating him.
