A major power outage struck Skillman Street in Williamsburg at around 5:00 p.m. Friday afternoon, leaving approximately 125 families without electricity just hours before Shabbos.
Residents reached out to UJO of Williamsburg, which quickly began working with Councilman Lincoln Restler’s office and the Mayor’s Office to get the outage addressed as swiftly as possible. City officials coordinated with NYC Emergency Management and Con Edison, bringing crews to the scene to begin working on the problem right away.
Con Edison crews worked through the evening to identify and repair the issue, and power was restored to the affected families within a couple of hours, bringing much relief to residents after what could have become a far more difficult situation throughout Shabbos.
Shomrim was also on the scene assisting as needed, while representatives sent by the Mayor’s Office came down to monitor the situation and make sure the response was moving forward smoothly.
The UJO of Williamsburg and local community leaders express their appreciation to everyone involved in the rapid response, with particular thanks to Councilman Lincoln Restler’s office and the Mayor’s Office for their immediate involvement and coordination in getting the outage resolved.
