Light At The End Of the Tunnel For Williamsburg Residents Without Power For 40+ Hours

By Idy Perl

Over a thousand residents in South Williamsburg have been dealing with power outages since Tuesday amidst a brutal heat wave, but there is finally some light at the end of the tunnel.

Despite ongoing efforts from UJO Williamsburg and the advocacy of several local officials, Con Edison was not able to return power during the heat wave that brought temperatures of 100 degrees to the city.

“We have been pleading for more resources from Con Edison since Tuesday- to no avail,” Lincoln Restler wrote on X. “No one has been working on site for hours. Large families and older adults are struggling. We need help from ConEd now.”

On Thursday afternoon power on Wythe and Howard Avenue was finally restored, and ConEd crews were seen working in the Myrtle Avenue area, while additional crews further assessed the outage on Penn Street.

With power getting restored and outside temperatures dropping as well, residents will soon be out of the unbearable heat.
