Iconic Headquarters of Satmar Chassidus on Rodney Street Undergoes Significant Expansion

YS GOLD

Satmar chassidim throughout the world are heartened by the news that after half a century of growth of the chassidus, the iconic Beis Medrash of the Satmar Rebbeim in Williamsburg, beginning with the Divrei Yoel who reestablished the movement with a handful of chassidim in this very location, will be significantly expanded.

This Beis Medrash has not undergone any significant change in the fifty years of its use as the Satmar Beis Medash, in keeping with the wishes of the kehillah to retain its original character as it has existed in the days of the Divrei Yoel. However, the phenomenal growth of the chassidus has left them with no choice but to embark on an ambitious project of expansion.

The bulk of the work is focused on raising the roof of the beis medrash by one level, elevating the ezras nashim by a level, which will leave room for additional galleries and higher bleachers to accommodate the many thousands of chassidim for the Yamim Nora'im and other occasions.

Due to the ongoing work, the main Beis Medrash will be closed off for the coming weeks, as well as the Heichal HaTorah. The "Pulish" and side shtieblach on the first floor, as well as the mikvah, will remain open. Shabbos davening will take place in the "Pulish" as the Satmar chassidus prepares to usher in a new era in this venerated Beis Medrash that has served them for half a century. ;
