G Train Line Reopens After Major Overhaul

G Train Line Reopens After Major Overhaul

By Williamsburg 365 Staff

The G train line, a century-old subway route, has officially reopened following an extensive modernization project, as reported here.

The overhaul included new tracks, switches, and signals, transforming the historic line to better meet current standards. Key upgrades feature a complete rebuild of eleven miles of the subway line, enabling advanced signal control and GPS management for trains.

Despite the significant improvements, commuters endured a period of inconvenience, with approximately 160,000 daily riders needing to find alternate transportation while the work was underway.

Though the G train line is back in full operation, passengers can expect occasional night and weekend shutdowns as final touches are completed. The modernization brings the line into the 21st century, with future plans to introduce Wi-Fi and cell service throughout the G train tunnels.

The comprehensive upgrade project, which costs $622 million, is expected to be fully completed within the next three years.
