Con Edison Urges Brooklyn Residents to Conserve Electricity as Repairs Continue

Con Edison is urging customers in several Brooklyn neighborhoods to reduce electricity use as crews continue repairing electrical equipment following recent heat-related issues.

As part of the effort to maintain reliable service during the ongoing heat wave, the utility has temporarily reduced voltage by about 8 percent in the affected areas while repairs are underway. Con Edison said the temporary measures are intended to reduce strain on the electrical system and help prevent additional outages.

Residents in the affected neighborhoods are being asked to postpone the use of high-energy appliances, including washers, dryers, microwaves, and dishwashers, until repairs are completed. Customers are also encouraged to reduce unnecessary air conditioning use where possible, such as by operating only one unit in homes with multiple air conditioners.

Con Edison emphasized that the issue is limited to the affected neighborhoods and does not impact the rest of its electric system.
