CitiBike Riders Frustrated Over Lack of Docking Space Amid G Train Disruptions

Yisroel R.

Residents are raising concerns over a lack of available CitiBike docking stations, saying many docks are constantly full and making it difficult to return bikes during busy hours.

Residents in Greenpoint said that it can sometimes take up to an hour to find an open docking station, with some riders describing frustration and overcrowding around popular bike locations.

The complaints come as ongoing G train service disruptions continue affecting commuters traveling from Brooklyn to Queens, including neighborhoods like Williamsburg where the G train runs through, with the city encouraging residents to rely on CitiBike for commuting. However, with docking space often limited, many commuters feel they are running out of transportation options.

Councilman Lincoln Restler said he has been in contact with Lyft regarding the concerns. According to the councilman, CitiBike recently increased bike redistribution efforts and is hiring additional staff to help manage overloaded stations.

The city’s Department of Transportation said it is continuing to expand docking capacity in high-demand areas by adding and enlarging CitiBike stations.
