G Train Changes to Impact Williamsburg Riders in Coming Weeks

By Y.M. Lowy

The MTA has announced a series of service adjustments as part of ongoing signal upgrades and track work along the line. The changes will affect service between Brooklyn and Queens, including key stops used by Williamsburg riders.

Starting this weekend, from Friday at 11 p.m. through Monday at 5 a.m., G trains will run past their usual last stop at Church Avenue and continue along the F line all the way to Coney Island–Stillwell Avenue. The MTA has dubbed this temporary change the “G to the Sea.”

There will be no G train service between Court Square in Queens and Bedford–Nostrand Avenues in Brooklyn for several days. Instead, shuttle buses will run between those stations, making all G train stops along the route. This will be in effect April 20–24.

The changes are needed to continue upgrading the G line’s signal system, which is being modernized for the first time in nearly 100 years. The new system will allow trains to run more efficiently by tracking their exact location, improving spacing and overall service.
