Big Changes for Wallabout Street? NYCDOT Wants Your Feedback at Community Meeting
By Y.M. Lowy
The New York City Department of Transportation is holding a community meeting to talk about safety on Wallabout Street, between Classon Avenue and Marcy Avenue.
This comes as a result of advocacy by Rabbi Naftule Moshe Indig of WJCC, who, in September 2023, requested that the DOT commissioner consider making Wallabout Street one-way. The NYCDOT then commissioned a study on the proposal and is now sharing the results with the community.
The meeting will be on Thursday, April 3 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Pointe Plaza Hotel, 2 Franklin Ave. Everyone is invited to share their thoughts and concerns, which will help guide any changes to the area.
A recent poll conducted by Williamsburg 365 News on X revealed that 69% of respondents supported converting Wallabout Street to a one-way street.
This meeting is a chance to hear about the NYCDOT study, share feedback, and make sure your opinions are considered. All feedback will be used to help decide on the next steps.
