Bedford Avenue to Close During New York City Marathon
By Y.M. Lowy
There will be several service changes and travel updates for the 2025 New York City Marathon taking place on Sunday.
Bedford Avenue, a key stretch of the marathon route in Brooklyn, will be closed to regular traffic for the entire day on Sunday to accommodate runners and ensure safety along the course. Drivers are advised to plan alternate routes and expect heavy traffic in surrounding areas.
Travel to Staten Island will also be adjusted early in the morning to accommodate runners heading to the marathon starting point, with shuttle buses available from the ferry terminal. Some subway lines, including parts of the No. 1 and No. 6 routes, will run express due to planned work.
The Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge will be fully closed to regular traffic from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 2, while the upper level will close the night before at 11 p.m. for preparations. Nearby exits in Staten Island will also be closed during that time.
Drivers and travelers are urged to plan ahead and allow extra time for travel.
