BDE: Rav Meir Hersh Greenbaum, z"l
YS Gold
We regret to inform you of the passing of Rav Meir Hersh Greenbaum, z"l, a great talmid chochom. He was 73 years of age.
In his youth, he learned in the Satmar Yeshiva on Sands Street, where he merited to hear shiurim from the Satmar Rebbe, the Divrei Yoel.
The niftar was known for his Torah erudition, and already in his youth, he corresponded with the greatest poskim of the previous generation, including Rav Yitzchok Yaakov Weiss, Rav Shmuel Wosner, and others. These teshuvos are printed in their seforim.
Among the halachic queries that he sent to these gedolim was the question of walking across the Williamsburg Bridge on Shabbos.
Rav Meir Hersh was the younger brother of Haga'on Rav Shmaya Greenbaum, author of the mishnayos siyatta dishmaya, who passed away earlier this summer.
The niftar resided for many years in Kiryas Yoel.
The levaya will take place in Kiryas Yoel later today, and kevurah will be on the beis hachaim in Kiryas Yoel.
Yehi zichro baruch.
