Adams on Democrats: 'They Left Me'

By Y.M. Lowy
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has criticized the Democratic Party, accusing it of abandoning him and the working-class New Yorkers he represents. In an interview, to be released this evening, Adams said, “The party left me and working-class people,” and accused the Biden administration of punishing him for criticizing New York’s migrant crisis.
He claimed the White House dismissed his concerns about being a sanctuary city, telling him to “be a good Democrat.” Adams warned about rising crime, including alleged criminal activity by Venezuelan gang leaders, and called for changes to allow migrants suspected of serious crimes to be turned over to federal immigration authorities.
“I’m at the end of the line here,” Adams said, blaming city lawmakers for refusing to act. With re-election looming, his frustration is boiling over.
