Winter Makes a Comeback: Williamsburg Sees Over 12 Inches of Snow

By Y.M. Lowy

It has been a long time since this area dealt with a storm of this scale, and the snowfall over the weekend stood out after several relatively mild winters.

Snow, freezing rain, and biting cold swept through the region, sending residents into preparation mode. Stores filled with last-minute shoppers, heaters were turned up, and shovels were placed ready at the door. As the snow began to fall steadily, schools and chedarim announced closures and dismissals, and road conditions quickly became unsafe.

By the time the storm moved on, Williamsburg had recorded between 12 inches of snow, enough to blanket streets, sidewalks, and cars across the neighborhood. For many, it was the most snow they have seen here in years.

Still, residents were quick to compare it to the historic winter storm of 2016, when a massive 29 inches of snow fell across Williamsburg. While this weekend’s storm did not reach that level, it was enough to bring daily life to a slowdown.

As snow cleanup continues and temperatures remain below freezing, residents are being urged to use caution on icy sidewalks and roads.
