Windshield Boots Catch Williamsburg Drivers Off-Guard
By Y.M. Lowy
Williamsburg residents were caught off guard this evening as a new city initiative to enforce parking arrived unexpectedly in the neighborhood for the first time.
Aimed at cracking down on illegal parking, this involves not only the standard parking ticket but also the addition of the cumbersome boot, which is attached to a vehicle’s windshield. While the boot is meant to prevent vehicles from leaving the scene, it also comes with a hefty removal fee, adding to the already expensive fine.
As drivers adjust to this latest development, many are left wondering if the city’s efforts to curb parking violations might have come at the expense of common sense and clarity.
