Williamsburg Resident Yaakov Chaim Deutch Granted Sentence Commutation by President Trump
By GY
Williamsburg resident Yaakov Chaim Deutch is on his way home after President Donald Trump commuted his 62-month federal sentence following 22 months of incarceration. The commutation clears the way for Deutch to reunite with his family and the Williamsburg community.
A White House official told Williamsburg 365 that Deutch’s commutation came after he served more than 22 months in prison, despite prosecutors seeking a significantly shorter sentence. Deutch was sentenced to 62 months—roughly three times longer than what the prosecution requested and longer than sentences typically imposed in similar cases. Under federal sentencing guidelines, the official said, Deutch has already served more than the customary maximum and would have been released by now had he received a more appropriate sentence.
The Tzedek Organization played a central role in advocating on Deutch’s behalf. Rabbi Moshe Margareten, founder of Tzedek, told Williamsburg365 in an exclusive interview that the organization worked tirelessly on the case from its earliest stages, engaging in extensive advocacy efforts to highlight what they viewed as serious injustices in the prosecution.
