Two Dead, Several Injured After Boat Strikes Brooklyn Bridge

By Williamsburg 365 Staff

A tragic boating accident Saturday night left two people dead and several others injured after a vessel carrying 277 passengers struck the Brooklyn Bridge.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:20 p.m., prompting a large-scale emergency response. FDNY marine units, along with Rescue 2 and Rescue 4, were quickly deployed to the scene. Officials initially responded to reports of a boat in distress and possible individuals in the water.

“Once the marine units arrived on scene, we knew immediately that we had a serious incident with a boat striking the bridge,” said FDNY Chief of Training Michael Meyers. “They brought EMS units out to the vessel to start treating the more seriously injured people and transported them to Pier 16, where we set up a casualty collection point.”

Out of the 277 people on board, 19 sustained injuries. Two remain in critical condition, and two others tragically passed away from their injuries.

In the hours following the crash, NYC Department of Transportation bridge inspectors arrived on site to assess potential damage. While inspections are ongoing, officials report there are no signs of structural damage to the Brooklyn Bridge at this time.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
