Safety Fixes for BQE at Wythe Avenue Proposed at Community Board Meeting

Safety Fixes for BQE at Wythe Avenue Proposed at Community Board Meeting

The city is planning improvements to the westbound BQE near Exit 31 and Wythe Avenue to make it safer for drivers and pedestrians. This area has had many crashes, mostly from cars stopping suddenly or changing lanes too quickly.

To fix that, the Exit 31 ramp will be made wider, the road will be repaved, and new barriers and clearer lane markings will be added. Sidewalks and crosswalks nearby will also be rebuilt to make walking safer. About eight parking spaces will be removed. The intersection at Wythe Avenue will get a new traffic light, better ramps for crossing, and a new layout to keep traffic moving smoothly.

Construction is set to begin in 2028 and finish by 2031. Roads will stay open during the work.
