Power Outage Leaves Hundreds in Williamsburg Without Heat

A power outage Monday left hundreds of Williamsburg residents without electricity, and in many cases, without heat.

According to Con Edison, crews are working around the clock to restore service after snow mixed with road salt seeped into underground equipment, causing damage to the system.

The FDNY responded to a manhole fire at 101 Montrose Ave. just before 1 p.m. and later turned the situation over to Con Edison for repairs.

Approximately 535 customers remained without power. A warming center has been opened at I.S. 49 The W.J. Gaynor School, located at 223 Graham Ave., for residents in need of heat.
