Police Search for Suspects After Multiple Necklace Snatchings

By Y.M. Lowy

The New York City Police Department is looking for two suspects wanted in a string of necklace snatchings across several neighborhoods, including one in Williamsburg that happened last week.

The case took place on November 26 at the corner of Havemeyer Street and Broadway. Police say a woman was standing at the intersection when an individual ran up and pulled her necklace from her neck. The thief then jumped onto a waiting black moped and sped away west on Broadway. The necklace is valued at about $1600, and no injuries were reported.

Investigators believe this incident is part of a larger robbery pattern tied to the same pair of individuals. The other cases, which happened throughout Queens and Manhattan, all involved suspects approaching victims on a black moped and pulling off their jewelry before riding away. The first report was on October 17 in Queens, and the most recent attempted theft happened on November 29.

Police released images of the two individuals and are asking for help from the public. Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Stoppers Hotline at (800) 577-TIPS.
