By Idy Perl
The NYPD met with local askanim to discuss various details regarding the upcoming Yomim Tovim. The meeting was attended by Chief Henderson, the commanders of the 88th, 79-90th, and 94th precincts, and many local community leaders.
They discussed this year’s Tishrei schedule and the security and service details that are needed on specific days so that officers can be properly notified beforehand and know what to expect. Additionally, they arranged to have the Navy Yard on Clymer St be open for tashlich on Thursday, the first day of Rosh Hashana, as well as during Aseres Yemei Teshuvah on the following Thursday, October 10.
Chief Henderson also discussed the recent incidents of perps snatching jewelry off women and girls and said that the NYPD will set up various checkpoints throughout Brooklyn to discourage criminals from attempting petty crime. There will be many extra officers deployed in the days before Yom Tov to control traffic and ensure the city runs smoothly.
