NYPD 79th Precinct Cracks Down on Illegally Parked Bikes & Mopeds
The NYPD’s 79th Precinct is stepping up enforcement against improperly parked bicycles, mopeds, and motorcycles across the neighborhood.
In a reminder posted Thursday, police emphasized that mopeds and motorcycles must be legally parked with proper registration and insurance. Bicycles, meanwhile, are not permitted to be chained to public property such as poles, signs, or city infrastructure.
In recent enforcement actions, officers were seen cutting locks and removing bikes secured to unauthorized locations. Vehicles found in violation are subject to ticketing and towing.
Officials say the crackdown is aimed at keeping sidewalks clear, maintaining accessibility, and ensuring compliance with city regulations.
Residents are encouraged to use designated bike racks and follow all parking laws to avoid penalties.
