NYC Facing Ongoing Dry Conditions as Rainfall Falls Below Average
Dry conditions are expected to continue across New York City in the coming months, according to the Climate Prediction Center.
Latest forecasts show below-average rainfall through at least the end of July, raising concerns as the region heads into the typically warmer and drier summer season.
So far this year, rainfall levels in the city have already fallen behind. As of May 5, Central Park is nearly 4.5 inches below average for 2026. Nearby, LaGuardia Airport has recorded just over 4 inches below normal levels, while Newark Liberty International Airport is down by just under 3.75 inches.
Meteorologists say a combination of warmer temperatures, stronger sun, and a lack of storm activity is expected to make conditions drier across the region.
The spring months, especially April and May, usually bring a large share of the area’s yearly rainfall. With that pattern falling short this year, the dry trend is expected to continue into early summer.
