New York City Mayor Eric Adams, along with NYC Sheriff Anthony Miranda, NYPD Interim Commissioner Thomas G. Donlon, and DCWP Commissioner Vilda Vera Mayuga, celebrated the removal and destruction of over 1,200 pounds of illegal vape products. The seized products, confiscated through the Adams administration’s “Operation Padlock to Protect” initiative, were shipped for safe disposal due to their hazardous batteries and components.
Since the operation began, more than $80 million in illegal tobacco and vape products have been confiscated, filling NYPD evidence warehouses. This move follows August’s incineration of four tons of illegal cannabis products, totaling 576 bags, as part of the city’s campaign against unlicensed smoke shops.
“Today, we say goodbye and good riddance to products that endanger our children and undermine our quality of life,” stated Mayor Adams. Since gaining state authority to tackle illegal cannabis sales, the administration has shut down over 1,200 unlicensed smoke shops, confiscating thousands of illegal vapes in the process.
