New York Police Departments to Receive $100 Million for New Equipment and Technology
Police departments across New York State could soon be getting new tools to help them on the job as the state rolls out $100 million in funding for law enforcement technology and equipment.
The funding will allow departments to apply for grants to purchase items such as body cameras, drones, trauma kits, AEDs, patrol equipment, crime scene scanners, gunshot detection systems, and other technology designed to help officers respond more effectively and investigate crimes.
Another $25 million will be used to replace the state’s aging records system, making it easier for police agencies across New York to share information and file reports.
The new funding is part of New York’s Law Enforcement Technology (LETECH) grant program, which has already provided more than $127 million to hundreds of police departments and sheriff’s offices across the state in recent years.
