MTA Plans New Bus Lane to Ease Williamsburg Traffic

By Y.M. Lowy

The MTA and DOT are planning to add a new priority bus lane on Marcy Avenue, between Broadway and Borinquen Place, to help cut down on traffic and speed up bus service for nearly 30,000 daily riders.

The proposed layout would have parking on the left, a center lane just for buses, and a car lane on the right. Officials also want to widen the corner at Marcy and Broadway to make it easier for buses to turn.

The MTA says the plan is still in the works and they’ll consider community input before moving forward. If approved, the redesign could bring a big upgrade for one of the neighborhood’s busiest streets.
