MTA Cracks Down On Bus Fare Evaders
By Idy Perl
The MTA has estimated that up to 50% of the nearly 2 million passengers who ride the MTA buses every day are evading the fare.
The MTA has already been facing financial struggles, and the lost fares are costing them millions of dollars. If things continue this way, MTA CFO estimates that they will have a $400 million deficit within the next few years.
To deal with the problem, the MTA has announced that they will be strategically deploying additional MTA fare enforcement officers and NYPD units onto buses to crack down on the passengers riding for free.
