Mild Earthquake Shakes NYC and New Jersey; No Injuries Reported

NEW YORK CITY — A mild earthquake rattled parts of New York City and New Jersey on Saturday evening, briefly startling residents across the region.

According to preliminary reports from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the quake measured approximately 3.8 in magnitude, with its epicenter believed to be in central New Jersey. The tremor was felt as far as Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and even parts of the Bronx.

At approximately 10:23 PM, NYC Emergency Management began receiving calls from residents who reported feeling their buildings sway or hearing windows rattle. Within minutes, social media lit up with questions and concerns as people across the city asked: “Did anyone else just feel that?”

The NYC Office of Emergency Management released a statement saying they are actively monitoring the situation and are working closely with federal agencies to confirm the earthquake’s origin and impact. At this time, no serious damage or injuries have been reported in the five boroughs or surrounding areas.

FDNY and NYPD both confirmed that they received a spike in 911 calls but responded to no major emergencies directly linked to the tremor.

In Williamsburg, some residents described feeling a brief jolt or rumble, while others said they only noticed it after seeing alerts online. “It was quick, but definitely felt something move,” one local resident told W-365.
