Mayor Adams Attacks Councilman Restler After Another Crash on Bedford Avenue Bike Lane

NYC Mayor Eric Adams publicly attacked Councilman Lincoln Restler after another crash occurred on the Bedford Avenue bike lane, as a cyclist riding an e-bike hit a child on Sunday evening, causing injuries to the child.

Councilman Restler, a supporter of the bike lane, posted a Williamsburg365 Twitter link with a video of the incident, and called on the Department of Transportation to “install safety enhancements” tailored to meet the needs of the community.

Mayor Adams took issue with Restler’s statement, just days after the Mayor made an effort to appear in Williamsburg for a town hall where the issue of bike lanes was brought up.

“Let’s be clear, Lincoln Restler never called for modifying or removing the protected bike lane on Bedford Avenue,” the mayor said in a post on X. “We’re reviewing the proposals brought forward by local residents and will have an update soon,” the Mayor added, emphasizing the visit to the neighborhood last week.

Lincoln responded shortly after, stating: “Mayor, we all know you’re not paying much attention to governing our city. I’ve been requesting safety enhancements from the DOT for months—both in private meetings and at public budget hearings. Hopefully, your team is now ready to work with our community on real improvements.”
