Major Construction Project Closes Multiple Streets Near Park Avenue
By Y.M. Lowy
A large construction project near Park Avenue is expected to continue for at least another two weeks, with multiple streets remaining closed as crews work to repair damage caused by a burst pipe.
The burst pipe affected a Con Edison feeder and led to the formation of a large sinkhole, prompting emergency repair work and significant road closures in the area.
A Con Edison feeder is an electrical line that delivers power from a substation to neighborhoods or buildings in New York City. It’s essentially a main supply cable that feeds electricity to a specific area of the grid.
A spokesperson for the Department of Environmental Protection told Williamsburg365 that “DEP crews are making emergency repairs to a large sinkhole that we responded to last week.”
The city has obtained permits from the Department of Transportation to close affected streets while the repairs are underway. Despite the closures, access will be maintained for emergency vehicles.
The work is expected to continue for at least two more weeks as crews repair underground infrastructure and restore the roadway.
Drivers in the area should expect ongoing traffic disruptions while the project remains active.
