Local Askanim Discuss Bike Lane Concerns With Brooklyn Borough President
By Idy Perl
Williamsburg askanim sat down today with Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso in the Brooklyn Borough Hall to discuss the growing concerns regarding the bike lane on Bedford Avenue.
The meeting came as more children have been getting injured by cyclists every day since the bike lane is directly in the way when children get off the bus.
Members from Hatzolah were at the meeting as well and spoke about the many injuries they’ve responded to that were caused by incidents on the bike lane. In addition, they mentioned the Hatzolah garage and FDNY fire station that are on Bedford Avenue and are experiencing delayed response time as the bike lane causes severe traffic jams on the block.
Members from Shomrim and various well-known askanim were at the meeting as well and provided possible solutions, such as diverting the bike lane to an alternate route on nearby streets. Together with the Brooklyn Borough President they reviewed several possible plans to resolve the issue.
Reynoso pledged to discuss the matter with DOT to find a solution and ensure all Williamsburg pedestrians are safe.
