Last-Minute Invitation: Mayor Adams Travels to Washington for Trump Inauguration

This morning, it was revealed that Mayor Eric Adams accepted a last-minute invitation to attend President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on behalf of New York City. The Mayor’s office confirmed the cancellation of two planned events to accommodate the trip to Washington, D.C., with Adams expected to return immediately after the ceremony.
Adams expressed optimism about working with Trump because of their shared New York roots. “The president-elect is from Queens, and so am I. We both love New York, and that matters,” he said.
On Saturday, Mayor Eric Adams clarified that his recent meeting with President-elect Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago did not include any discussion of a presidential pardon. Instead, the conversation focused on a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, creating manufacturing jobs in the Bronx, and improving infrastructure.
Adams said, “I’m the mayor of the biggest city in America. I’m supposed to speak with the president, just as I did with President Biden.”
