YS Gold
We regret to inform you of the passing of R’ Aryeh Leibish Rubenstein, z”l, a member of the she’eiris hapleita, and a longtime Williamsburg resident who went on to rebuild from the churban. He was 98 years of age.
Reb Leibish was the most senior and respected Pupa chassidim—and was a Pupa talmid yet from before the war.
He endured the worst of suffering during the Holocaust, and witnessed the worst atrocities perpetrated upon his fellow Yidden.
He married and built a beautiful Torah home in the Williamsburg community in the glow of his rebbe, the Vayechi Yosef of Pupa, and ybl”ch, the current Pupa Rebbe, shlita.
For years, Reb Leibish served as the Purim Rov in the Pupa kehillah, bringing joy and inspiration to the Rebbe and thousands of chassidim.
Reb Leibish was beloved and respected within the chassidus as well as outside it—representing a demus of a true fartzatishe Yid who embodied the old-world values and attitudes.
He was niftar on motzei Shabbos at the age of 98, leaving behind a beautiful family and a sterling legacy.
The levaya took place Sunday morning in front of the Pupa Beis Medrash in Williamsburg where the Pupa Rebbe was maspid the niftar, as well as other respected figures and family members. The kevurah took place at the Pupa Beis Hachaim in Chester.
Yehi zichro baruch.
