Hochul Announces $70 Million to Boost Security for Organizations

Governor Kathy Hochul announced up to $70 million in funding to help protect nonprofit and community-based organizations vulnerable to hate crimes and attacks.

The funding, part of the Securing Communities Against Hate Crimes program, will support security upgrades including cameras, access control, lighting, barriers, and cybersecurity improvements.

Officials say the grants come at a time of heightened global tensions, with organizations across New York facing increased threats. Eligible groups can apply for up to $250,000 per site to strengthen safety measures.

State data shows hate crimes declined in 2025 compared to the previous year, though early 2026 figures indicate a rise in incidents in New York City.

Applications for the funding are open through July, with awards expected to be announced later this year.
