Hasidic Leaders and Community Back Antonio Reynoso for Congress

 A united group of Orthodox Jewish leaders from major communities in NY-7 including Satmar, Pupa, Vizhnitz, Vien, Tzelim, Nitra, Krasna, Skver, Krula, and Klausenburg today announced their endorsement of Williamsburg native Borough President Antonio Reynoso for Congress in New York’s 7th District, home to Williamsburg’s Hasidic community. The endorsement reflects broad support built over years of close working relationships in City Council and as Brooklyn Borough President.

Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso said: “I’m honored to have the support of so many respected Hasidic and Orthodox Jewish leaders and families across NY-7. This endorsement reflects the years of work we have done together, from advocating for local schools and nonprofits to making sure people of all different faiths have a voice at the table. I look forward to continuing that work together in Congress.”

He has consistently shown appreciation for our values and religious needs, and has been a strong partner on issues important to our neighborhoods. Antonio Reynoso brings a decade-plus record of progressive results to this race, starting as a union organizer for childcare workers before serving on the New York City Council, where he chaired the Progressive Caucus, led the fight to end illegal NYPD searches and kicked ICE off Rikers Island. As Brooklyn Borough President, he helped more than 6,000 immigrants obtain work authorization and launched a $45 million maternal health initiative at public hospitals. 

Throughout his career he has taken down party insiders, corporate Democrats, and big money special interests -- earning endorsements from the Working Families Party, Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez, Attorney General Tish James, and Public Advocate Jumaane Williams. The son of Dominican immigrants who grew up in Section 8 housing, Reynoso now has two sons in New York City public schools and is running for Congress to bring that same fighting record to Washington.
