Half Marathon Set to Pass Through Williamsburg This Sunday
By Y.M. Lowy
A major race is coming through Williamsburg this weekend, and residents should expect crowds and heavy activity throughout the area.
The annual NYCRUNS Brooklyn Experience Half Marathon is set for Sunday, April 26, with more than 27,000 runners expected to take part, making it one of the largest half marathons in the country.
The race will begin in nearby Greenpoint and pass along the East River waterfront, including routes that run through Williamsburg. Runners will continue south through Brooklyn before finishing in Prospect Park.
While most local residents won’t be participating in the race itself, its impact will be felt across the neighborhood. Streets along the route will be closed at various times, and traffic may be limited throughout the morning hours.
Residents are advised to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and be aware of changing traffic patterns on Sunday as the race moves through Williamsburg.
