Governor Kathy Hochul came to Williamsburg on Sunday and met with Hasidic leaders at two meetings, just over a week before Election Day. The Governor was joined by top senior staff and Councilman Lincoln Restler.

Rabbi Moishe Indig arranged the first meeting and welcomed the Governor to Williamsburg. Leaders of the Satmar Kehila and its mosdos attended, along with heads of many mosdos hatorah and community organizations.

R' Shlomo Weber, Rosh Hakohol of Kehilas Yakov Pupa and one of the leading askanim in the community, opened the meeting. Other speakers followed. They talked about topics that matter to the Jewish community, including the fight against antisemitism, and thanked the Governor for all she has done for the community.

The Governor thanked the community for its endorsement. The Governor said private and religious schools are an important part of New York. She said she will "double down" on her friendship with the Jewish community and will continue to work every day to make life better for every New Yorker.

"We have hakaras hatov. We remember who stands beside us, who has the Jewish community's back when it counts," Rabbi Indig said.

The Governor then went to a meeting hosted by Rabbi David Niederman, President and Executive Director of the United Jewish Organizations of Williamsburg and North Brooklyn.

Rabbi Niederman welcomed the Governor together with leaders of Satmar, Pupa, Vizhnitz, Vien, Skver, Tzelim, Klausenburg and Nitra, as well as Hatzalah, Shomrim, Chaveirim and many other community groups.

Community leaders thanked the Governor for standing up against antisemitism and hate, for supporting parents' right to choose the right education for their children, and for expanding child care help for thousands of children.

The Governor spoke about her close ties with the Jewish community. The Governor said yeshivas and religious schools will always have a place in New York, and that she will keep working closely with the community
