A fire broke out Sunday evening on the top floor of a vacant building at 628 Bedford Avenue, between Hewes Street and Penn Street, prompting a significant response from the FDNY.
According to the FDNY, the call was received at 5:21 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find a fire burning on the upper floor of the unoccupied structure.
A total of 21 FDNY units, including 79 Fire and EMS personnel, responded to the scene to battle the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighboring buildings.
Thanks to the coordinated efforts of firefighters, the fire was brought under control at 5:59 p.m., less than 40 minutes after the initial call.
Officials reported no injuries to firefighters or civilians. Because the building was vacant, there were no occupants inside at the time of the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Emergency crews remained at the scene following the incident to ensure all hotspots were extinguished and to assess the condition of the building.
