FDNY Battles Myrtle Ave Fire at Beis Medrash; Building Evacuated, No Injuries

A major emergency response unfolded Wednesday afternoon in Williamsburg as the FDNY battled a serious fire at 782 Myrtle Avenue, a multi-story building that includes a Beis Medrash.

The blaze was reported on a lower floor and spread smoke and heat to other areas of the structure, prompting a heavy response from firefighters and emergency medical teams. Hatzalah volunteers and EMS units rushed to the scene to provide triage and assist as occupants exited the building.

Initial reports indicated possible trapped occupants, but authorities confirmed everyone was safely out of the building and no one was trapped. FDNY shut electrical power to the building as crews worked to contain the fire. No injuries were reported, according to information from the scene. Hatzalah remained on standby as a precaution while firefighters continued operations.

Thick smoke was visible in the area, impacting visibility and leading authorities to urge the public to avoid the vicinity of Myrtle Avenue near Marcy Avenue due to emergency activity, road closures, and delays.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. FDNY officials said the incident was turned over to a Fire Marshal for further investigation. The fire was fully extinguished by approximately 7:00 p.m.
