Dozens of Williamsburg Homes at Risk as NYC Plans Massive Lien Sale

Dozens of Williamsburg Homes at Risk as NYC Plans Massive Lien Sale

By Y.M. Lowy

For the first time since COVID, the New York City Department of Finance is preparing to sell over 30,000 property liens citywide.

A lien is a legal claim the city places on homes  with unpaid property taxes, water bills, or sewer charges, giving it the right to collect the debt or seize the property if necessary.

The deadline to settle these balances was originally May 19, but the city has now extended it to June 3. Homeowners must pay what they owe by June 2 to avoid severe financial penalties or losing their homes.

Askanim who reviewed the list warn that dozens of affected properties are in frum neighborhoods across Brooklyn. They are urging residents to check the city’s official website to confirm that their property is not on the list.

Anyone who may be behind on city payments is urged to act without delay.
