Deputy Chief Richie Taylor Visits Williamsburg Following Shocking Assault

By Idy Perl

As reported earlier, Williamsburg residents were shocked at the news of the violent assault on a heimish yungerman at the intersection of Myrtle Ave and Bedford Ave early this morning.

The perpetrator was arrested and transported to a local hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, but locals are still reeling, and a feeling of unease is in the air.

As a show of police force and to reassure the community, Deputy Chief Richie Taylor, along with multiple NYPD officers, visited the community today to speak with locals and hear their concerns.

“We’re out here to make sure the community is safe, and equally as important, that the community feels safe,” Deputy Chief Taylor told Williamsburg365 in an exclusive statement. “We’ll never allow a person to change the narrative and make people feel that it’s not safe to walk the streets of their own neighborhood. Other officers and I will be out here today and every day to patrol the streets and make sure that we have that strong relationship with the community.”

Deputy Chief Taylor also mentioned the mayor’s visit earlier in the day to hear residents’ concerns about public safety and other city issues in the community.

Deputy Chief Taylor credited the leadership of Mayor Eric Adams, Police Commissioner Edward Caban, Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey and Deputy Commissioner Mark Stewart for “the strongest working relationship between the police department and the community in history."
